The Driftwood is a 37-room motel on the waterfront, adjacent to the ferry dock.  . Run by friendly, interesting local people. This motel has character and its own humble charm, but don’t  expect modern rooms, new furniture, or immaculate upkeep. Dogs are allowed. Cable television with HBO included, no phones in room. Prices vary, usually in the neighborhood of $90.

Primitive Camping

Primitive camping is allowed free of charge at Cape Lookout National Seashore, including Shackleford banks, Bear Island and in the Croatan National Forest . You may pitch your tent almost anywhere along the 55 miles of North and South Core Banks and Shackleford Banks. Driftwood fires are permitted below the high water line.  Bear Island has private campsites. Croatan National Forest offers public campgrounds and primitive camping on National Forest land.
